Other Books in Series
This is book number 2 in the The Infernal Devices series.
I am still in love with Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices trilogy. Clockwork Prince is the second book in the series and things are really starting to get exciting. Charlotte’s authority and abilities are being questioned in regards to running the Institute, creating pressure for finding Mortmain and Nate. Tessa is still desperately trying to find out exactly what kind of supernatural creature she is, and now she finds herself fighting her attraction for Will and falling in love with Jem.
Clare has the best steampunk world. (Steampunk is a genre that focuses on the Victorian era and the craziness of inventions. The genre is typically a mix of fantasy and alternate history.) Her world is dark and the robotic automatons are cleverly depicted and frightening. She has such a gift for creating fabulous atmosphere in her novels. I am continuously being drawn back to her world. The characters are amazing. You can’t help but fall in love with all of them, including Will and his facetious comments. It is also fun to read about fictitious characters who are passionate about reading. I really like when Tessa and Will start debating about Dickens or other Victorian authors that they are currently reading. I have to say that my favorite part of her books are the Victorian and Romantic authors’ excerpts. I love reading Tennyson, Arnold, Coleridge, and many others at the start of the chapters. It really sets the mood and gets you ready for what is to come. If you are looking for a new series to read, this would be a great choice.— Jody
True love is shrouded in secrets and lies in the enchanting second book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Infernal Devices Trilogy, prequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series.
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

"A purple page turner."
--Kirkus Reviews, November 2011
“Clare delivers in this trilogy second. . . . Really very well done. Be sure to start with the first in the Infernal Devices trilogy, Clockwork Angel, to best enjoy this tale.”
-- Romantic Times Book Review, December 2011
"Whether it's the overly tight corsets or the smell of dark magic that hangs in the air "like sulfur mixed with the Thames on a hot day," there's something about Victorian England that heightens tensions, both romantic and paranormal. In "Clockwork Prince," the second installment in a prequel trilogy to the bestselling "The Mortal Instruments" series, Cassandra Clare demonstrates her relentless authorial alchemy, blending societal restraint and an otherworldly battle into a steamy steampunk drama."
--Los Angeles Times, December 2011
"This novel offers mystery, adventure, and, most importantly, a delicious love triangle. . . . It will not disappoint fans and it will definitely leave them eager for the conclusion of the trilogy."
