I just started reading the
In the Garden trilogy by Nora Roberts. The first book is titled
Blue Dahlia
and the story sets up a great foundation for the series. Stella's
world has just crashed around her with the death of her husband, but she
is unable to fall to pieces since she has two small boys to raise.
Instead of wallowing in self-pity, Stella picks herself up and moves her
family back to her roots in Memphis, Tennessee. She gets a great job
working at a garden store and quickly moves into the large mansion,
Harper Hall. Everyone has told Stella that the house is haunted by a
friendly female ghost, but she doesn't believe it until she finally
meets her for herself. This naturally leads to the question of, "Who is
this spirit?" Stella, her boss and the newest household member Hayley,
decide to tackle this mystery. Of course since this is a Nora Roberts'
book, Stella does get tangled up in a love interest as well as trying
to piece her life back together and track down the history of a ghost. I
really enjoyed the southern tid-bits that were throughout the novel and
overall felt this was a fun, warm read. The small dose of paranormal
that is in the book was intriguing, and even though I know more about
the ghost than the characters, I find I am still craving more knowledge
on her back-story. I wasn't sure if I would continue on with the
trilogy simply because I am not much of a gardener, but I find myself
looking forward to picking up the second book and continuing the story.
