While on vacation I decided to read Grave Surprise by Charlaine Harris, and I have to say I feel a bit sorry for the people sitting around me at the airport, I just couldn’t contain my laughter at some points. This is the second book in the Harper Connelly series, and I thought it was even better than the first. When Harper was a teenager she was struck by lighting, and one of the long term effects has been the ability to find dead bodies and tell you how they died. Harper is asked to come give a demonstration for a college class in Memphis, Tennessee. And wouldn’t you know it, she finds a body that doesn’t belong in the grave she is examining. Well, this immediately starts a murder investigation that Harper is determined to solve. The characters, as previously mentioned, are even more entertaining in this novel than in Grave Sight; Harris laid the foundation for the characters in her first book and was able to have a little more fun in the second one. I am anxious to see what the third book has in store. Harper and Tolliver’s relationship is starting to change, and I am curious to see where Harris plans to take it.
