Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan is fantastic.  He just keeps getting better with every book, of course this means that we read it nonstop and then are anxiously waiting for the next book.  The story picks up right where The Son of Neptune ended.  Annabeth, Jason, Piper, and Leo are all flying along in the Argo II hoping that Camp Jupiter doesn’t think they are trying to start a war.  This paired with the weight of having the coin that Athena, her mother, gave her with the words “avenge me”  attached  as made life a little stressful for Annabeth.  However, this is not discouraging her from tracking down Athena’s statue and making things right.

Riordan writes such beautiful descriptions; I was in awe when he the described the statue of Athena.    He  also has such a gift for keeping his readers glued to his every word.  The tale never becomes repetitive or mundane.  In fact, they become more suspenseful and every bit of the story is packed with adventure.  This has been such a great spin off series from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and is wonderful for all ages.

The exciting second book of the Lost Heroes series, The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan, is finally out and is fabulous. Percy is back, but not quite as the Percy we all know and love since he now has amnesia and has no idea about his past. Percy wanders into a Roman camp unsure of who he is and where he should go. He joins up with the fifth legion, otherwise known as the misfit group, and soon uses his natural hero essence to change things around for his new friends. Percy’s memories slowly return as he joins a quest with new heroes Frank Zhang and Hazel Levesque. Which is good, since new threats are starting to surface. Gaia has started her plan to take back earth and get rid of the humans, so the more heroes the better. Riordan does such a great job of keeping you enthralled in his books. It seems the books just keep getting better with new characters arriving and the plot thickening. This is sure to please his fans and have us all anxious for book three.

Rick Riordan's latest novel Lost Hero is a new generation of demigods who are ready to set out and fulfill their prophecies. It isn't absolutely necessary for you to have read the Percy Jackson series, but highly recommended. This story introduces us to three new characters, Jason a son of Jupiter, Leo a son of Hephaestus, and Piper a daughter of Aphrodite. Jason wakes up in a bus with no memories, except that he must rescue Hera before the solstice. But for some reason, this girl, Piper, is convinced that they are dating (you would think he would remember that). Not to mention, his best friend, evidently, is some guy named Leo. The bus takes the three to Camp Half-Blood, but soon they are off to find Hera. Riordan once again creates strong characters who learn to grow into themselves. For instants, Piper realizes that it isn't the worst thing in the world to be a daughter of Aphrodite, and Leo finds that his mechanical skills aren't as bad as he once thought. The interactions between Jason and Piper are also entertaining to read since their memories don't exactly match up. This new series will give readers a whole new perspective since we will not only be reading about Greek gods, but also Roman gods. It should be fun to read about the differences between the sons of Zeus and the sons of Jupiter. If you are feeling a bit blue from finishing the Percy Jackson series, you will be happy to know that Riordan has more demigods who are out to complete their quests and give us readers a great adventure to follow.

The final chapter to the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan is The Last Olympian. The unavoidable war between the Titans and the Olympians is about to take place. Kronos heads to New York City to attack the unprotected Mount Olympus (why yes, the gods do live above the Empire State building) while the Olympians attempt to control the monster Typhon. Meanwhile, Percy and his gang of demigods set out to stop Kronos and protect Mount Olympus. In this exciting conclusion we also learn the fate of Percy and his prophecy. I have been told that the final battle with Kronos is very intense and is sure to have you glued to the book. However, a large portion of the book focuses on Percy and all of the tasks he completes prior to the fight with Kronos, making it less about the final battle and more about the characters. All and all, this is a wonderful series to read for all ages. If you are looking for a book to get your child into reading, give this series a try. It is full of suspense and humor to keep your child craving more. The series has been incredibly popular since last winter and everyone that I have talked to has loved it.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book Four: The Battle of the Labyrinth (Paperback)

The fourth book in the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan is The Battle of the Labyrinth. The tension is growing between Kronos and the Olympians and it seems like the war is coming. Percy and his friends head out to the labyrinth in hopes of stopping Kronos's border invasions. To make things even more interesting, before Percy leaves school a new student appears and is being chased by demon cheerleaders. It seems that things are just going to get worse from here on out. Don't worry, the suspense and humor continues on even in the fourth book. At this point in the series the characters are really starting to develop and come into their own, allowing the reader to become even more attached to the story. Most of the people that I have talked to said they had to hurry and pick-up the fifth book to find out the exciting conclusion.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians #3 - The Titan's Curse (Paperback)

The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan is the third book in the Percy Jackson series. In this book, Percy gets a distress call from his friend Grover and prepares himself for battle. Once he meets up with Grover he learns of the discovery of two new powerful half-bloods, as well as learning that Kronos has kidnapped the goddess Artemis. Now, Percy must find Artemis before the winter solstice so that she can help influence the Olympian Counsel when they vote on the Titan war issue. On top of looking for the missing goddess, Percy must also help track down the monster that Artemis was hunting before something devastating happens. Once again, this is an action packed story where the suspense will have you frantically turning the pages. I have been told that this is a bit darker story than the first two books in the series. However, Riordan still found a way to make the tale humorous .

One of my co-works has been reading the Percy Jackson series with her son. Both readers have been enjoying the series, and are continually anxious to read the next book. In fact, I have been told that their other books have been put on hold because the Percy Jackson story is so captivating. As a reader, I always find it fun to discuss what I am reading with other people, so naturally I love that she and her son get together to discuss the book. This is such a good idea, and a great way to get kids reading. Not to mention, all generations have given positive feedback on this particular series. According to USA Today, the first three books of the Percy Jackson series are in the top ten bestsellers for mid March, and the last two are numbers eleven and twelve. That is pretty impressive for a series.
